The Flight of Justice (Saturday 16 November 2002)
The Riders met shortly before 07:00 at London Victoria station. They managed to drag their huge pile of luggage onto the Gatwick Express, then settled down for the journey to the airport. When the flights had been booked back in August it may have seemed wise to the Riders to save as much money as possible, but as they sat on the train to Gatwick planning their day, they began to question why they were heading to Dallas for a 3 hour changeover, rather than straight to Vancouver.
After paying a supplement for the extra baggage required for their 6 month mission, the Riders visited a few duty-free shops then boarded the plane. Take-off was delayed by almost an hour due to earlier fog on the runway, but at 11:09 flight AA051 took off, and the Riders' adventure was under way.
The flight was relatively painless - legroom, films and food were OK, and the Riders managed a bit of sleep. At Dallas the US Department of Justice welcomed the Riders, then they paused for some Texan beer and food before taking the flight to Vancouver.
The Riders were re-united successfully with their luggage in Vancouver, then met by Dom and his housemate, Mark, whose Ford Expedition comfortably transported the Riders and their kit into the city.
