It's finally snowing. The forecast is for it to snow about 30 cms each day for the next 10 days so we are very exited. It is absolutely chucking it down with rain in the village but it is snowing hard on the mountain. It will be a few days before the top runs have a good amount of decent snow but the lower slopes are not going to get any snow for another month at least.
Tuesday is our day off the gym and we decided to take in some après at the Longhorn tavern right at the foot of whistler main station. We were just tucking into our second or third jug of honey special when a very attractive girl offered her services of a massage. Paul immediately accepted and was soon pulling faces of mixed agony and ecstasy. I decided to give it a go but was soon wishing I hadn't. Michelle told me that I had whiplash in my neck (probably from the falls on Friday last week) and that she would work on getting rid of the knots. 10 minutes later and with tears in my eyes she said that she had managed to get through 2 or 3 layers of scar tissue but there was still a bit to go. I declined graciously for any more on the basis that I had already bitten through my lip in trying to stop myself from crying out in pain!
I had hoped to watch the Man U vs Deportivo game on SportsNet but not for the first time, they had mis-advertised the time and I arrived in the pub just as the game finished. Still I contented myself with a *light* massage from Celeste this time, and watched the goals on a highlights program.
We decided that, as the snow has begun to fall, and the weather appears to be turning, we should invest in some all season tyres for the WOJ. Knowing that we were almost out of food as well we decided to take a trip down to Squamish and go to the big supermarket there and to Canadian Tyres. We went up to the slopes on Thursday morning but it was raining so hard on the mountain that we came down after only 1 run and decided that this was the best time to do the trip. After getting everything sorted we headed back to Whistler and noticed a strange smell coming from the engine as Bob tried to overtake a Land Cruiser on a hill...(he failed)...
The beard is getting annoying and is now extremely ginger. Have decided to go for a goatee for a bit.
The mountain was completely different kettle of fish when we went up on Friday. There was about 2 foot of snow on the hill and we set off up to the glacier chairlift to get some fresh tracks. Unfortunately the snow covering was deceptive and although I had been warned by Mike to stay out of the off piste until it had snowed a lot more, the temptation to cut some turns in the powder was too great. Now sitting at home looking at the 2-inch rock rip right to the base of my brand new Lib Tech, I am seriously regretting not heeding his advice. Nasya came up in the evening and we all went to dinner with Mike at Blacks. After too many beers we came back to ours and stayed up till around 5am chatting. It was one of the nicest evenings we've had since we've been here.
Heading to Vancouver on Saturday night, the car begun to seriously struggle on the hills. We knew the clutch had been going for a while and that we had to get it changed so we had booked it in to be fixed on Monday. About 30km outside Vancouver the inevitable happened and it blew on a blind corner. Bob called Mark who added to his already legendary status and set out to pick us up and get a tow sorted. We got out of the car to wait till he arrived. We were into our 157th game of eye spy when the heavens opened and it rained so hard that getting back in the car was the only option. After about 4 or 5 cars had stopped to offer their help, a pickup pulled up and offered to take us into Vancouver. We declined on the basis that Mark was only about 10 minutes away and said that he needn't wait. As we had the indicators on we thought that we could easily be seen and didn't need him to put cones or flashing lights out. He was about 50 yards up the road when the CD player stopped and all the lights turned off - I had forgotten to keep the engine running and the battery was flat. As panic set in we got out of the car and ran down the street frantically tried to warn the traffic coming round the corner. God knows how no one hit the car but Mark turned up shortly after and we headed into Vancouver to Mack's birthday party.
And what a party it was... |
