January 2003 Diary
| Jon - 29 Jan 2003 (Week 11) |
Thursday 23rd was a fantastic day. Wednesday's snow had continued into the night, and we'd decided to get up early and take Jules for a Fresh Tracks breakfast up the mountain. When we woke up it was actually raining, but the various weather reports we checked said that there had been seven inches of snow, and that it was still snowing, so we set off at about 07:00. |
| Jon - 22 Jan 2003 (Week 10) |
We've had a great week or so, with the three of us back on the slopes together for the first time this year. In the last couple of days the snow has begun to fall again, and the forecast is predicting more snow every day. The only negative point is our continuing landlady problem. |
| Jon - 14 Jan 2003 (Week 09) |
After yet another roller-coaster week, things in the Palace are looking up. All injuries seem to be making progress and, after some trouble with the landlady, we’re feeling pretty positive about our proposal for the remaining time in Whistler. |
| Jon - 08 Jan 2003 (Week 08) |
It’s been one hell of a week for Justice: within 7 days I broke my ribs, Andy tore a ligament in his knee and Bob and Jen split up. On top of that there’s been more rain than snow, and now Paul has decided to call it a day and head back to Blighty. |
| Bob - 04 Jan 2003 (Week 07) |
Sun 29th Dec - Dom was staying and we planned to drive straight down to Vancouver to do some shopping before I picked Jen up from the airport in the evening. Then the phone rang. It was Andy calling from the mountain to tell us that Jon had nearly killed himself by flying into some huge rocks on 7th Heaven. Dom and I drove straight to Blackcomb base and waited for him and Andy to download escorted by mountain patrol. Jon was in a bad way, he''d been knocked unconscious for over a minute and could hardly breath from the impact of the rocks on his chest. He went straight to the health centre and waited to be x-rayed. Dom and I got our stuff together at the palace and took some things to the health centre for Jon. We stayed with him for a bit and then headed to the city. Got to Dom''s and worked on the car for a bit, caught up with Mark quickly and then went out for dinner to Wild Rice with Dom and his girlfriend. After a nice meal, I went over to Mack''s house and watched a wicked snowboarding video filmed in Whistler with him, Amrit, Patrick, Shannon and Alex. Met Jen just after midnight and drove back in a blizzard using the force to see the road. Ended up following a snow plough at 40kph and got back at 3:30am. |
| Jon - 01 Jan 2003 (Week 07) |
Almost every aspect of life here has changed in the 10 days since I last wrote. We’ve had over 2m of snow, our guests at the Palace have changed, and I now have 3 broken ribs. |
