Diary: Bob - 24 Nov 2002

Our first 2 weeks were mostly spent acclimatising and sorting ourselves out for the coming months.

Sat 16th Nov - After finally reaching Vancouver (via Dallas ??) and sampling BC''s finest, we went out to see an old friend (Mack) play some tunes at a cool bar in Downtown Van city. Music was great, crowd was really friendly, and even though the riders and I were absolutely knackered by midnight from our travels, we managed to deliver justice to the partisan crowd. It didn''t stop raining all night.

Sun 17th Nov - Mostly spent sleeping and getting over our sore heads, although we did get out to some shops in Van city to sort out local mobiles and pick up a PS2 with a couple of games to keep us going. We saw very little of Sunday afternoon. Sunday night went to see an English band called Zero7. They played in a nice little venue, not too crowded, but nicely busy. I took a digital camera and was almost thrown out by a bouncer the size of Hagrid for taking pictures! Did manage to get a few snaps for the gallery of justice though. Rained hard all day.

Mon 18th Nov - Dom took the day off work and we decided to hire a car so that he could drive us to Whistler with our stuff. Got the car and went shopping for snowboard gods, Andy and I bought new snowboard jackets and pants. Late in the afternoon, we got a call from Mark (Dom''s flat mate) about a possible justice mobile so we decided to go and see it. Turned out to be a 4x4 Subaru Legacy estate from 1989, not quite the huge 4x4 truck we imagined, but we decided that it would be the wagon of justice. Got back from seeing the car quite late and it was still raining hard so we stayed over in Vancouver again and played a few PS2 games late into the night[link to picture].

Tue 19th Nov - Bought the wagon in the morning and finally managed to get our arses up to Whistler. We were very pleasantly surprised by what we found there. It was immediately obvious that the house was more than worthy of its title: The Palace of Righteous Justice (PORJ), it is absolutely gorgeous. Spent all day unpacking and wandering around thinking how well we had done with the house.

Wed 20th Nov - First morning in the new pad, met the landlady early on and were pleasantly surprised again after having a few tense phone calls across the water a month ago. Dawn turns out to be really nice and seems to like us (although after renting to 4 Aussies last year, we didn''t have to try very hard!) and we invite her to dinner the following Wed so we could get to know each other a bit better. In the evening we met up with Mike (who Jon, Voysey and I stayed with in Whistler for the last 2 trips out here) and Jeremy (who was a lifty last year and played a fundamental role in the discovery of Justice). We all tried to go to a Freestylers gig in the village. Queued for an hour, decided to go and see them in Vancouver the following night instead, and went back to the PORJ.

Thu 21st Nov - Most of the day was spent sorting out house stuff and we drove down to Vancouver for a disappointing Freestylers gig with 2 of their DJs and no live MCs. The riders still managed to have a decent night and HUNG with Jon (who came over to London in the summer) and his girlfriend Tara (pronounced Tera). Another late and hazy night.

Fri 22nd Nov - Back to Vancouver via Squamish and the biggest supermarket I''ve ever seen called Save On. Spent over $CAN700 on food and booze, oops. Arrive back at the PORJ and eat a lot for the rest of the day, no change there for Andy then ;-).
