We arrived. Finally. Not in Whistler yet, but at least we had made it to Canada. How we all agreed to take a flight via Texas is still a mystery to me, but I had a great voicemail at the Dallas airport from Pin and Ady telling me that we had beaten Australia, so it didn't seem too bad.
The first couple of days were spent in a bit of daze. We went out to a party as soon as we arrived in Vancouver and not for the last time, Sunday was spent feeling very sorry for ourselves. BC's finest hasn't helped matters either and even though I seem to go to bed at about midnight absolutely knackered, the jet lag is waking me up at 5.30am, which is bloody annoying.
Mark, Dom's flatmate, very kindly sorted us out with a car, which is now the Wagon of Justice, and after over-staying our welcome by three days we headed up the Sea to Sky highway to Whistler.
The house is truly amazing and far beyond what we had expected. Where the Wagon of Justice is not quite the Ford 350 Pickup that we had imagined, the house was bigger and better than we had ever hoped and fully deserves its given title – the Palace of Righteous Justice (PORJ).
We had spent only a couple of days at the house, getting to know how to use the cooker and eating too many pizza pockets, when we headed back down to Vancouver to see the Freestylers play. We had missed them in Whistler as we hadn't got tickets and the queue was too big, but in fairness we needn't have bothered. The gig was not the same as when I had seen them with Tom at Cargo – they played a very middle of the road set and there we no live singers. In fact they only played 1 tune from “We Rock Hard” which was a major let down. Still it was good to get out of the house.
We went back to Whistler for Friday night before heading down to Vancouver again on the weekend. It was Mac's party on Saturday night, which was a really good laugh and gave us the chance to properly catch up with lots of people that we had met on previous visits. |
